HLC’s green action
Established in 1991, HLC has been aware of promotion of energy-saving in workplace. It regularly arranges its staff to attend lectures on environmental protection and promotes low carbon business from every aspect of daily work life. It also encourages and subsidizes its staff to participate activities on promotion of low carbon living organized by BGCA and other non-profitable charity organizations. Through internal propaganda and forums, information and guidelines on environmental protection are delivered to all staff. To ordinary people, low-carbon living may just only be an attitude and habit towards living. HLC has always been striving to promote savings in consumption of electricity, water, energy, etc.
HLC has also formulated for itself an on-going development strategy in low-carbon industry. This includes regular and timely discussions and reviews on low-carbon knowledge. Such strategy becomes a macro framework for development model, standard of products and on-going target for the enterprise. HLC revamps low-carbon as its corporate system project which include corporate vision and mission, corporate structure and specialized planning, innovation in technology and re-engineering, supply chain, sales and logistic, product servicing and recycling, corporate culture and brand communication, people management, construction saving and asset management, capital utilization and funding models. All these are applied by phases and segments.

For many years, HLC has consistently promoted service quality in its servicing industry and noticed the undivided relationship between service quality and green economy, i.e. more green, better the service quality. HLC uploaded cooking menu and ‘Handbook for Employers of Domestic Helpers’ in its website providing a free channel for all employers and helpers to view, thus reducing printing. HLC is also the pioneer in the industry to launch real-time web-interview for employers to interview with one or more overseas domestic helpers at one time. This eliminates the frequency of traveling by the employers. Besides, extensive use of SMS and e-mail has replaced phone calls and home visits to inform the employers the status of application. Such practice not only helps to reduce wastage of resources and exceed the expectation of the clients on our service level but also save much energy as a whole.
Hong Kong ICT Awards
Supported by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, Hong Kong Productivity Council, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and organized by ten local professional associations, the Awards aim at building a large scale and internationally recognized branding of ICT awards of Hong Kong. This also aligns with the government policy in promoting Hong Kong as a well-equipped international communication hub in environmental protection; to echo with market appeals on reforming ICT industry to a 'greener' and 'cleaner' engine; and to raise the awareness of the public to 'Green' concept.
In 2012, HLC was once again awarded the Certificates of Merit in Green Achievement at the HSBC Living Business Awards. In the same year, it was the first time HL&C awarded "The Most Progressive Hong Kong SMEs in Corporate Social Responsibilities Practices" The Hong Kong Polytechnic University jointly compiled the Hong Kong SME Business Sustainability Index with the Hong Kong Productivity Council. These awards are recognitions of HLC’s contribution on ‘Green’ environment and also an encouragement for HLC’s striving for adopting sustainable development strategy on low consumption of energy, low pollution and low carbon emission.
